You cannot close the aisle, and you cannot use anything that will not wipe clean.
Grocery and convenience impose two constraints most sectors do not: the floor trades continuously, and every surface has to survive cleaning. Both point at the same answer.
The constraint
Cleanability and trading hours, not load capacity.
Weight per linear foot is rarely the binding constraint in grocery. Two other things are.
The first is the surface. Megawall aluminum wipes down and resists dust and formaldehyde, which board-based systems do not — they absorb, they swell in humid and refrigerated environments, and they delaminate at the edges where trolleys hit them. Aluminum is also LEED certified and made from 50%+ recycled content, which matters on new-build and refit programmes chasing certification.
The second is time. You cannot take an aisle out of trade for a week. NuPanel replaces the pegboard back of a standard gondola with 1″ aluminum slatwall in about a minute a bay using a clip system and no drilling — which fits inside an overnight window rather than a shopfitting programme.

What we would specify
Retrofit the gondolas, then fix the end caps.
In grocery the end cap is where the retrofit pays for itself fastest.

NuPanel Retrofit
Drops into 36″ and 48″ gondolas, replacing pegboard with 1″ aluminum slatwall in about a minute a bay.

Four configurationsDetail that matters here
Where the merchandising actually changes.
End caps
The highest-value merchandising on a grocery floor. End cap panels run 14.5″, 36″ or 48″ wide in 48″, 60″ or 72″ heights, with optional rails and graphic areas.
Tight aisles
Where a floor fixture is needed, the Pinwheel gives four merchandising faces in a footprint that leaves convenience-store aisles walkable.
Category capacity
A pegboard back means hooks and light product. A 1″ slat at over 50 lbs per linear foot lets a bay carry categories it previously could not.

That is enough to confirm the panel and price a pilot store — without a survey and without taking anything out of trade.
