Cleaning

Megawall aluminum is engineered to resist dust and formaldehyde and wipes down, which is a large part of why it is specified for grocery and high-traffic retail. Powder-coated steel cleans similarly well.

  • Wipe the slat channels as well as the face — dust collects in the channel, and it is what makes a wall look tired long before the finish does.
  • Avoid abrasives on powder-coated and anodized finishes. Neither needs them, and both will show the scuffing.
  • Clean the trims. They take the knocks, so they show wear first.

What to check, and how often

  1. Load against rating. Merchandising drifts over seasons and bays quietly end up carrying more than they were specified for. Megawall panels are rated over 50 lbs per linear foot — worth checking against what is actually hanging there.
  2. Bracket and hook seating. Anything that has been rearranged repeatedly is worth re-seating, particularly heavy-duty brackets carrying awkward items.
  3. Trim edges. Corners and bottom trims take trolley strikes. They are inexpensive to replace and they are what the customer sees.
  4. Fixture casters. On seasonal floors, casters are moved more than anything else on the fixture. Check them before a reset, not during one.

Why metal fixtures are a different maintenance proposition

Board-based slatwall fails in ways maintenance cannot fix. The slat elongates under sustained load; the board absorbs moisture in humid or refrigerated environments and swells; the edges delaminate where they get hit. None of that is a cleaning problem, and none of it is reversible.

Megawall panels are formed and welded steel or aluminum, so there is no board to swell, no laminate to peel and no insert to pull. Maintenance is genuinely maintenance — cleaning, checking and occasionally replacing a trim — rather than managing a decline.

Replacement trims and accessories are available in matching finishes for every system, and the installation instructions for every product are in the resource centre. If you need a trim matched to an older installation, call us — finishing is in-house, so a match is usually possible.
