Start with the product, not the fixture

The most common way a display goes wrong is that the fixture was chosen first and the merchandise was made to fit it. Work the other way.

Three properties of the product decide most of it:

  • Weight. Heavy and bulky merchandise needs a system rated for it. Megawall steel and aluminum both carry over 50 lbs per linear foot because they are formed and welded metal rather than routed board.
  • Size and shape. Small, high-count product wants close slat spacing so facings land where you want them. Long or awkward items often want a heavy-duty bracket rather than a shelf.
  • How it is evaluated. Product a customer picks up wants to be at hand height on an accessible face. Product bought on appearance wants elevation and lighting.

Then the space

Wall systems use square footage you are already paying for and do not obstruct traffic, so they are almost always the first move. Floor fixtures earn their place by doing something a wall cannot — creating a destination in the middle of the room, or steering traffic.

If you need floor fixtures, the footprint matters as much as the capacity. An H-Frame gives four merchandising faces but needs clear circulation on every side. A Pinwheel gives the same four faces in a much tighter footprint. An L-Frame turns a corner and creates a focal point.

Then how often it changes

A floor that resets four times a year should be specified differently from one that stays put. Casters on floor fixtures turn a reset into a move rather than a reorder, and because Megawall panels accept standard slatwall hooks, shelves and brackets, the wall can carry a completely different category without the wall changing at all.

Specify casters at order rather than later. Discovering you needed mobility after the fixtures have shipped is the expensive way to learn it.
